Solution

I need frequent adjustment visits with my chiropractor due to poor posture. It would be great to have something to manage my habits in-between visits to reduce my pain level until my next visit. He warns me about the long-term damage this could have in the long-term if I don’t take care of my spine.

I try to pay attention to my posture right after a visit but over time, I forget to do it, especially when I get busy. I need something that detects my spine position and alerts me when I start to slip back into a bad posture. I want to train myself to hold that posture for a long time until I can do it on my own or at least with fewer reminders.

A device that can create a map of spine position to bring awareness to the spine looks while doing regular activities like working at a desk, standing in line, or scrolling on handheld devices. Check spine position anytime and set correction alerts in the form of gentle taps via smartwatch. It will show a visual representation of the patient’s posture and a tip on how to correct it. A timer to challenge users to hold the corrected position for as long as possible. Helpful data can be shared with healthcare providers to customize a more informed health plan together. Focus on long-term spine health instead of just getting adjustments adjustment for pain management.

CONCEPT DESIGN

What if there’s an app that measures posture habits and helps correct patients throughout the day? Since chiropractors can’t manage our daily habits, we can leverage wearable technology to assist in building better habits toward long-term spine health.

Spine mapper delivers spine position data to the app. The app will send gentle reminders through the smart watch.

Health tracking device

Having a detector in these three major areas help identify daily activities that contribute to back pain.

Visual representation

When users see how their spines are positioned at rest, it helps motivate them to correct their posture. The spine mapper will help users identify which part of their back is out of line and can correct it right away after a gentle reminder is sent via the smartwatch.

Additional data gathering using the Habit Journal section will help users identify habits to improve.

Gamified correction alerts

Gamifying the duration of holding the corrected posture after an alert will subconsciously help users to be aware of their posture throughout the day. The goal is to have fewer correction alerts per hour. Badges will reward users throughout their journey as positive reinforcement.

Data to share with HCP

Helpful data you can share with your chiropractor on your next visit to inform your care plan. Interact with your doctor via the app by sharing data, sending a message, receiving informed assessments, or scheduling your next adjustment appointment.
